Our Mission
Rockwind was born out of a recognition that there is a better, more sustainable way to harness wind energy. Hundreds of wind turbines are being decommissioned to make way for even larger wind turbines, but those wind turbines can be cost effectively refurbished and reused in distributed energy applications. By refurbishing and reusing decommissioned wind turbines, Rockwind hopes to make clean wind energy accessible and affordable for as many organizations as possible, with a focus on onsite generation.
In everything we do, we operate with three main goals in mind:
1) To decrease reliance on fossil fuels by providing an alternative source of clean, renewable energy that is sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective and can be used to generate clean energy onsite where the power is used.
2) To reuse decommissioned wind turbines instead of scrapping them, thus avoiding a costly recycling process that both destroys a long-lived source of clean energy production and increases greenhouse gas emissions in the process by scrapping thousands of tons of scrap steel and fiberglass. By using skilled US subcontractors and advanced refurbishment technologies developed over years of research, we can give these decommissioned turbines new life.
3) To bring clean wind energy to rural and urban, low-income, and marginalized communities, providing new employment opportunities, cutting down on sources of pollution, and decreasing utility costs for families and businesses in these communities
We hope our turbines can serve as a lasting legacy of what we can accomplish when we work towards our vision of a cleaner and brighter future.
